Portrait

After attending the Free University in Berlin I started my own law office as Rechtsanwalt (Attorney at Law) in Berlin in early 1978. During my studies I have repeatedly worked as a sales manager in a major record retail store in Berlin where I was exclusively responsible for all import business. Also I have been performing as a guitarist in a rock band for several years.

As early as 1978 I have worked as legal counsel for a tax accountant office in which I became one of the partners and the partnership´s CEO from 1980 to 1982. From day one of my registration with the local bar association I have been legal counsel for a variety of clients in the music field, such as musicians, producers, publishers, labels, concert promoters, and music retailers which came kind of naturally since I had at that time, as said, substantial experience not only in legal matters but as a sales manager in record retail and as a performing musician.. A few years ago I have repeatedly and successfully applied for broadcast licenses on behalf of investors groups.

In 1988 I have teamed with my colleague Peter Pietsch who apart from being an attorney is also notary. When this collaboration ended in 2002 I have enrolled a business advisor and an accountant so that I may again offer accounting and book-keeping services as well as advice in tax matters.

For years I have attended the annual music business convention MIDEM in Cannes/France, also the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas, where I have been featured as a panelist.

Currently I am (among other) legal counsel for EFA Medien GmbH where I am responsible for drafting licensing agreements between my client and the likes of Maceo Parker, Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Les McCann, Joe Zawinul et al.. A substantial amount of my time is spent on litigation by and between composers and their copyright collecting society GEMA so that I may claim to have special experience pertaining to the peculiarities of distribution of mechanical and public performance royalties.

Throughout the recent years I have been rendering services not only for clients in Germany but also from USA, England, Denmark, Netherlands, Italy, Cyprus, Romania, and Turkey.
